MOTH salt. grain. ink / Est. 2017
Established in 2017, Moth Salt. Grain. Ink. is a personal creative passion project that combines my deep connection to nature and the ocean with a love for craftsmanship and sustainability.
is dedicated to offering more sustainable alternatives for surfers and ocean enthusiasts. Through the creation of hollow wooden surfboards, hand planes, and belly boards, the project seeks to educate ocean users about the environmental impact of conventionally made surfboards and inspire ocean users to think of ways to reduce their footprint on the natural environment we cherish.
The business name and byline are intentionally designed as conversation starters, sparking meaningful dialogue with the community and potential clients about sustainability, craftsmanship, and our relationship with the ocean.

The guiding principles of MOTH were embedded in creating sustainable surfcraft and inform the wider surfing community of both the personal and environmental benefits of riding timber boards.

Business cards printed on recycled timber card with eco ink reinforced the sustainable image for the brand.

The completed surfboards feel alive and the experience of riding a handcrafted board is rewarding in itself.

To promote the project, visiting Makersfaire provided a great platform to discuss the merits of these boards construction. This included a great opportunity of an interview on ABC radio.

T-shirts were designed and printed to encourage discussion of the project.

Designing and crafting a surfboard out of timber takes time and care. Adding artwork helps individuals each board.
